Choosing classroom audio

Three things to check before ordering

Match the connection

Check your device’s audio port, then confirm the product supports it. Models differ in their connection options, which can include 3.5mm, USB-A, USB-C, or wireless. A USB-C charging port does not necessarily carry audio.

Decide if students need a microphone

Headphones cover listening. For speaking, recording, or communication, choose a model with a microphone and check that both audio and microphone work through your chosen connection.

Plan your classroom quantity

Count the headsets needed for each classroom, cart, or location. Check whether the listing is a single unit or a pack, or request a quote for help planning a larger order.

Avid Education purchasing questions

Which Avid model should we start with?

For listening only, the AE-08 is the budget choice and also comes in a 100-pack, while the AE-711, AE-35 and AE-54 are sturdier classroom headphones. For speaking and testing, the AE-25, AE-36, AE-55 and AE-75 headsets add a boom microphone. The AVIGA AP-1000 is an over-ear headset for STEM labs and longer sessions, and WonderEars AP-400 is sized for ages 4–9 with an 85 dB volume limiter.

Which Avid headsets work for online testing?

The AE-55 School Testing Headset comes with a single 3.5mm TRRS plug for Chromebooks, tablets and laptops, or as a USB-A version for desktops and labs. Its noise-canceling microphone rotates 270° for either side. For a low-cost option with a microphone, the AE-1M testing earbud has an in-line mic and a 3.5mm plug.

What does the Fishbone adapter do?

The Fishbone TRRS adapter is Avid’s answer to broken pins in device headphone jacks. Its flexible, ribbed design bends and rotates under strain, so the plug slips free when a cord is pulled instead of damaging the jack. It comes singly or in a 30-pack.

How do I order the right number for a classroom?

For a single-unit listing, the order quantity is the number of units you want. For a pack listing, multiply the packs ordered by the units included per pack. For example, two 100-packs contain 200 headphones. Check the specific listing before adding to your cart.

Can our school request a quote or use a purchase order?

Learning Headphones accepts school purchase orders and provides quotes for classroom quantities. Use the Request a Quote page and include your preferred models, total quantity, device connections, and purchasing requirements.
