Choosing disposable headphones

Three things to check before ordering

Match the plug

These models use a 3.5mm plug, which fits most Chromebooks, laptops and desktops. For devices with only a USB-C port, add a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter or choose a USB-C model.

Decide if students need a microphone

Listening-only models cover most assessments. For speaking or recording sections, choose an earbud with an in-line microphone and a single TRRS plug, such as the EB-100.

Order one per student, plus spares

Count every student testing, then add a few extra for lost or damaged pairs. Bulk packs of 250 to 1,000 bring the cost per student down further.

Disposable headphone questions

What makes headphones “disposable”?

They’re priced low enough, about $2.50 or less per unit, to give one to each student instead of sharing and cleaning headsets between users. Students can keep and reuse their pair, which makes them practical for testing days, field trips, substitutes and shared computer labs.

Earbuds or on-ear headphones?

Earbuds are the lowest-cost option and pack easily into bags or bins. On-ear headphones such as the LH-313 and Essential Classroom Headphones rest on the ear instead of in it, which many students and younger learners find more comfortable.

Do any disposable options have a microphone?

Yes. The EB-100 and LH-3T school earbuds and the Avid AE-1M testing earbud have in-line microphones and a 3.5mm TRRS plug for devices with a combined headphone and microphone jack. EB-100 comes individually and in 100- and 500-packs, and LH-3T in a 50-pack.

We’d rather reuse headphones. What helps?

Disposable ear cushion covers and headset cleaner keep shared headphones hygienic between students. See the HygenX collection and our headphone care guide.

Can our school request a quote or use a purchase order?

Learning Headphones accepts school purchase orders and provides quotes for classroom and district quantities. Use the Request a Quote page and include your preferred models, total quantity, and purchasing requirements.

About disposable school headphones

Disposable headphones and earbuds give every student their own pair for state testing, benchmark assessments, library computers and one-time events, without the cleaning and tracking that shared headsets need. Our range runs from single units to bulk packs of 1,000, all with 3.5mm plugs, with microphone options for speaking tests. For larger orders, ask about classroom and district quotes.
